A big pat on the back for Marco Pantani, not, as you might think, for his excellent effort in taking over the yellow jersey but for managing to let a fast fading Jan Ullrich win Stage 16 without actually using his brakes.

It was touch and go, and he stopped pedalling momentarily as he kept looking anxiously across at Ullrich. But in the end he succeeded in doing the right thing!

Maybe he'll be seeking a contract to ride motor paced races in the next Six Day season? (Oh, and there's three riders line abreast as they come into the final banking...)
